On New Year’s Day somewhere around 40 voters and activists- all residents of House District 102- joined a half-dozen volunteers and supporters for Stefani from elsewhere for a meeting with the newly elected representative. They came with a single voice, asking to honor her commitment to them- via her own words and her signing on as an Independent Conservative Republican. They asked her to listen to that conservative majority and to support a conservative alternative to the Democrat’s choice for House Speaker, Joe Straus.
Stefani had an extremely difficult time answering the multitude of issues that were raised related to her continued pledge to Joe Straus (which apparently was given before a Garland Tea Party candidate forum, where she said she “hadn’t thought about the Speaker’s race”). Well, it’s rather difficult to not think about it now, with this unprecedented show of district support for her undoing her hasty early decision to give a pledge card to Strause- before she was even elected! It is unheard of to have 40+ constituents show up at once on any specific issue; but that many during the holidays??? Ignoring something like that can only be done at considerable political peril.
