A good day in court for Texas and conservatives:
First, the EPA order on ‘cross-state pollution’ that would shut down our coal plants was vacated. The force that wanted to drive us into rolling blackouts say the EPA will be back next year with regs to force the issue. We all need to work hard to make sure that next year, EPA is staring at a budget with at least one- if not two- zeros lopped off their total number.
And a separate court ruled the state does indeed have a right to decide where money for Women Health services goes (NOT through Planned Parenthood). The ridiculous argument that NOT giving tax money to Planned Parenthood was a violation of free speech was all but laughed out of court.
But the fight on these and other fronts is far from over. Currently, some people within the Department of Public Safety are saying illegal immigrants who Obama granted a ‘deferment from deportation’ by Executive Order now are qualified for- and can apply for- a Texas Drivers license. Our Governor, as usual, came out with a statement that sounds tough, but leaves wiggle- and lawsuit- room. We need to contact the Governors office and the offices of our local State representatives- current and newly elected- to demand that these ‘residents by Executive Order’ (not ‘residents by LAW’) be DENIED Texas drivers licenses and that any lawsuit demanding such recognition be treated as frivolous by the courts.
